Boy oh boy has 2020 been a rollercoaster of a year so far! We planned a wedding, postponed it due to COVID-19, and now we have some very exciting news… WE ARE MOVING! Zach and I recently purchased our very first house together and we are SO excited to share the adventure of making a house a home with you all! *Cue all the future home decor + renovation posts*
THE BACKSTORY
Zach and I moved to Dallas from San Antonio in 2018. We rented a small 875 sq. ft. apartment on Lake Carolyn in Las Colinas and instantly fell in love with the area. We loved that we were walking distance to the cutest bars and restaurants, had a beautiful view of Lake Carolyn, a very short drive to downtown Dallas, and reasonable commutes to work. We enjoyed our time in Las Colinas so much and will absolutely miss it!
Although we loved living so close to the city, we figured it was time to find a place further out in the suburbs – slightly less expensive, more space, and we want a yard so that we can finally get a puppy! We are moving about 30 minutes north of Dallas in the sweetest area and can’t wait to experience life in the BURBS!
THE BUYING PROCESS
The #1 question I’ve received when spilling the beans on our news has been: “did COVID-19 affect the buying process at all?” And the answer is YES – 100%! Note to self: never try and buy a house during a pandemic again! It was so strange! LOL. Wearing a face mask and gloves + not being able to touch anything (open doors/ cabinets) ourselves made for a very unique house-hunting process. We are so thankful to have had an incredible realtor show us the ropes and make the process a little more seamless. I highly recommend Teneka Harris with The Market, LLC if you are local to DFW and looking for a realtor- she was incredible and taught us newbies so much!
As for the actual search, the house we purchased did NOT come easy. The area we moved to is extremely popular and houses go very quickly. We toured about 4-5 homes and instantly fell in love with our current home. We made an above asking price offer the day after it hit the market and unfortunately we were beat out by another couple. Thankfully the deal did not go through after about a week of waiting & praying (and lots of stressing too tbh) and we were next in line to call! We snagged the house and we are so thrilled. We officially moved in on June 12th and have since spent the last few days unpacking and running to Home Depot approximately 100 times a day 🙂
In the past I refrained from sharing home content due to living in a small apartment that lacked natural light. Now that I have a little bit of space to work with, I am so excited to share all things HOME! Now taking any and all homeownership advice in the comments!!
